Shruti is a firm believer in the potential of market-based solutions to improve the lives of those in vulnerable situations. In her two and a half years at Upaya, she has made significant contributions by spearheading the portfolio's social performance and building evidence on how creating dignified jobs for the people in poverty can drive positive impacts on people, planet, and profit. Under her leadership, Upaya’s portfolio partners reported the creation of approximately 42,000 dignified jobs and the completion of over 3,700 jobholder surveys. She introduced collecting gender-disaggregated jobholder data from partner companies.
In addition to leading the impact measurement and management practices, Shruti launched the Dignified Jobs Collaborative as an ecosystem-building initiative and introduced the first-of-its-kind report on job quality in social enterprises in India. She brings over 16 years of experience in international development, having worked with esteemed organizations such as Palladium Group, Intellecap, and Population Council. Her experience spans emerging markets, including India, East Africa, and Southeast Asia. Shruti serves on the advisory board of CGAP and IDH initiative, Accelerating Business to Empower Rural women in Agriculture (ABERA).
Shruti holds a Bachelor's degree in Social Work from Delhi University, a Master's in Social Work from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, and a certification in Impact Finance Innovations from the Said Business School, Oxford University.
